Tayras

I went to explore a neighbouring valley today to set up some bird point count locations. The excitement started the moment I started walking down to the village, when two Tayras (a fairly large Costa Rican weasel measuring about a metre) skipped across the track. They were obviously very inquisitive, spending a minute or two sussing me out.

Tayra
New birds seen included Ruddy Ground-dove, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Bay-headed Tanager and Mountain Elaenia, however the highlight came during the walk back up the hill towards Cloudbridge, when a Yellow-headed Caracara flew over and landed in the top of a tree.

Rose-breasted Grosbeak (imm. male)
Black Phoebe - a few of these birds were at the top of the valley feeding over an open river.

I'm really pleased with this shot. More luck than judgement though.
